Re: Happy New Year to all and..................
I'm glad I relocated to a more warmer area, hated parking the bikes for up to 6 months of the year .
Coldest day so far this' winter ", was 39 F, 4 C .
Best riding conditions of the year in the low deserts of the southwest US .
Daytime temps of 70-80 F, 21-27 C .

Re: How do you get your bike to start in the teens?
I thought I saw a post here a few years ago, about jump starting an oilhead .
Remove the cover on the starter and put the positive lead on the positive stud on the starter, then put the negative lead on unpainted metal in the area .
Anyone ever try this ???

Re: Clock Stopped
I had issues when I removed a plug from the accessory socket for charging .
I guess I wasn't pulling it out straight and got contact between power and ground .

Re: How do you get your bike to start in the teens?
The battery in the R1150, is the same size as the batteries in my airhead 650's . The R100 airheads had a battery that is about 50-60 % larger than the batteries we have . I personally believe that the battery is under size for this displacement engine in cold weather . Also, when the battery voltag...

Re: How do you get your bike to start in the teens?
I had the same issue, the bike would sit outside all day at work, usually 18-20 hour, with temps in the 20's F ..
I installed a second battery where the ABS unit be be .
Non ABS bike .
No issues since doing this .
I also use Mobil 1 20w50 oil .

Re: Fast Idle Control
OK, a little late for replying to this thread !!
After 16 years of ownership, all I've had to do, is do a minor adjustment on the cable adjuster at the handlebar end .
Usually a half turn or so on the adjuster gets the high idle to work properly .

Re: Start Procedure after battery disconnect
Turn the key to the run position, slowly open the throttle to the stop bring it back to idle .
I don't know if you need to turn the key to the off position after this or not, I do, then turn the key on and start the engine .

Re: No life in start button this AM, this afternoon it fires right up
This thread got me curious . I put the side stand down and turned the key to the run position, fuel pump works, starter works . Disconnect the side stand switch and get the same as with the stand down . The only time the side stand switch has any effect , is when you have the side stand down engine ...

Re: An Open and Closed Topic
I just performed a valve clearance check on my '02 R two weeks ago . I did my first check at 15,000 miles . This latest check was done at 63,000 miles . One exhaust valve closed up .003 in, one intake valve closed up .002 inches . I had planned to do this every 15,000 miles, forgot about it, the bik...

Re: Tire blowout while riding at high speed, what's the likely outcome?
The outcome of this, is usually not good, especially in heavy traffic . I inspect the tires and check tire pressures at least once a week . I think I've been very lucky, I've had two tire punctures in 38 years of riding both punctures were on rear tires that were down to the wear bars and didn't fin...

Re: Replacement Battery
I always change the batteries in pairs, I use the same battery for both, I usually get batteries that are less than 2 months old . All of my bikes are on the same schedule for battery changes, and a few coworkers use this same battery in their bikes, so it's not unusual to order 10 batteries at a ti...

Re: Replacement Battery
Cylerob, it was an easy installation . The compartment for the ABS unit is smaller at the bottom than the top, I used a piece of 2x4 lumber as a filler for this void, then I placed a piece of high density foam, then the battery . I picked up two either 6 or 8 inch battery cables from an auto parts s...

Re: Tire Time
The RP4's that I have on now are just passing 13,000 miles, so probably in the 16-17,000 mile range when I get them changed . I'm just a few months from turning 61, so, my riding style is sedate !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Urban expressway commute to work and the occasional long cruise, no 'interesting' twisty ...

I have a PIAA Superwhite H4 55/60 for the headlight and a set of PIAA 510 driving lights with PIAA Superwhite H3 lamps .
More than enough light for night conditions, which comprise about half of my riding .

Re: Tire Time
I've had Michelin tires on the bike since it was new from the dealer . I've got a set of PR 4's on there now and they will need replacement before the end of the year . I reside in a desert, so I don't get a lot of experience with wet conditions, but the times I have encountered a heavy afternoon do...

Re: How often do you replace your air filter?
I replace mine about every 3 years, which is about 15,000 miles, with disposable type filters . I live in a very dusty area, low desert of south central Aridzona , I remove the filter every year and blow out any debris and clean out the airbox . I have stayed away from K&N type oiled cotton gauz...

Re: Replacement Battery
Sounds like you got a defective battery . It does happen . Any date of manufacture on the battery ?? I also agree with the choice of a PC680 battery . You don't have your location on you're profile, but there are some ' generic ' AGM type batteries available . http://www.staabbattery.com/product/UB1...
