Re: R1200R vs. K1200R
Thanks, guys, you talked me out of it. I don't need full ahead acceleration or speed, anyway, since the bulk of my riding is around town where nimbleness is a plus. What was I thinking?! I especially liked the suggestion that I spend the additional dollars on improvements to my bike--like suspension...

R1200R vs. K1200R
My attention has just been called to the K1200R. Having ridden the perfect motorcycle, my R1200R, for the past 8 years, I felt no reason to change. Now I do! Maybe. I'd switch to a 2015 R12R in a heartbeat (an even more perfect bike from everything I've read) if I could afford it (I can't) but a who...

Re: The 2015 R1200R Owners Thread
What a gorgeous, gorgeous bike! That blue is spectacular. It wasn't until I read your review that I had any yearning at all for a new bike. I was perfectly happy with my beloved '07 R1200R. What need to replace the perfect motorcycle? Well, now there is. I want one that is more better. Perfecter. I ...

Re: I just retired...
Congratulations on your survival! You certainly make the case for ATGATT (that I honor more in the breach). I'm glad you're (pretty) okay, now. Stick around. We need you. After many dry years without a bike, I got back to riding after my 2006 bout with 15%-chance-of-survival lung cancer. When I was ...

Re: Stock Seat Price
Really, really $75.00? I have one to sell but think I won't bother if it's that little. Seats are a huge pain to package and send.celticus wrote:You can really buy seats for $75? well thanks for the advice but I think I have it/them sold.

Sorry, don't care for it. Especially awful are the bright (Chrome? Aluminum?) air intakes. Honest to God it looks like a rice rocket!

Re: Ceramic Coated Header Winter Project Complete
Interesting,I got my 2012 with cromed headers, and cat but the muffler is brushed stainless steel.I did not ordered bike that way,but just got it like that.Personally I don't care about discoloration(blue header)-actually I like it. Steve H. It would be nice if the stainless steel headers turned blu...

The Matchless dealer also carried BSAs. I don't know why I chose the one over the other. I used to make...

Re: High Comfort Seat vs. Low Comfort Seat vs. Russel Day
Hey, Objectuser, Are you saying that you could just barely flat-foot it? I have a 30" inseam and you've got me worried. I have this compulsion to get a Day-Long, but obviously can't if the reach is going to be a problem. Do you suppose that's why they want the pictures, and will compensate for ...

Re: Riding at 5000RPM
Thanks This is good to know because the bike sure performs better at 4-5000rpm than putting around at 3,000rpm I "putt around" at 3,000 rpm in the city, shifting up at 5,000 rpm. I find the bike really sluggish below 3,000 rpm and see no need to rev it higher than 5,000 rpm. That's quite ...

Re: High Comfort Seat vs. Low Comfort Seat vs. Russel Day
Does anyone know if 2011/2012 seats will fit a 2007? I have a chance to buy a 2012 comfort seat but don't want to get stuck with something I can't use. The seller doesn't know.
Thanks.
Peter
Thanks.

Re: Which tankbag for new R1200R
I have a Marsee magnetic tank bag. It's just to the right size to be able to see my GPS and not hit it (the GPS) with the horn button with the handlebars cranked to the left. I don't know the model. It's okay but where the zippers go around corners they get a bit stuck. What I like about it is that ...

Re: Start-up rattle
Mine has the same rattle. I don't know if it is coming from one cylinder or both. It happens when the bike has been on the center stand, too. Sounds fine just moments later. Synthetic oil didn't change anything, it still rattles. It's such an organic sound I've never worried about it.

Re: R1200r gas tank removal
Wow, what a great post! I've been avoiding removing my tank for some time now because, although the steps in the manual are clear, what is where is not. Thank you very much for the clear pictures and explanation. There ought to be a sticky for pictorials like this.

Tire wear
Probably more than you want to know about tire wear:

Interesting take on why the left side of the front tire wears more than the right (or vice versa in right-hand drive countries).

Checking oil level
I finally broke down and got the SW-Motech cylinder guards. They change the bike's look radically from aesthetically pleasing free-form to industrial grunge but I feel much more secure. The problem is that the lower strut of the guard on the left-hand side is at exactly the same level as the oil lev...
