Thanks, doesn't look like the Rockster would be a good tourer for me.
Got pointed to this site on another forum. Good info there. http://cycle-ergo.com/

Rider Geometry
It's getting close to the time to renew my tabs on my R1100R, but instead I'll be stripping it down for a ground up rebuild. Looking at a replacement ride since when I'm done, it will no longer be a decent touring ride. I've always liked the Rockster, but am wondering if the rider geometry is better...

Re: 2000 R1100R Surging and Bucking
Not really, when I did a exhaust swap, I accidentally unhooked the right side. I assumed there as a problem with the exhaust, swapped them back and still had a rough ride. That's when I realize what the problem actually was. But I did go a mile or so with it unseated.

Re: 2000 R1100R Surging and Bucking
Dollars to donuts the throttle cable has come out of it's holder on one of the cylinders, most likely the right one. It's supposed to be seated inside a little "cup" but is quite easy to unseat. The thin black cable in this picture that ends with the serrated round cylinder. http://s112.ph...

I'd say not, different part numbers for a reason.

Re: 95 R1100R Cranks But No Start
Well, since you gave the thread some CPR, it got me thinking. I'd pull the exhaust to check for blockage. As you have this bike in a storage area, maybe a rodent built a nest in there or stored some goodies in it. It seems everything leading up to combustion is working, but since it dies soon after ...

Re: HOV/Express lanes: more or less dangerous?
I utilize the HOV lanes, but am always watching for someone to pull out in front of me when the other lanes are jammed.
Basically, I ride it like any other lane... They're all trying to kill me.

Re: Vibration from engine
Low RPM vibration and surging are common. Cruising the forums you'll find tips to minimize it, but it's a fact of life with the one spark plug per cylinder R1100's.

Re: Riding Motorcycles When You Have Young Kids At Home....
Well, peels, without wandering too far into another realm, I'd say check out the International Aerobatic Club website. All the info on what we do is there, feel free to PM me for more specifics. I'm old school so I fly a biplane , but she's a hotrod. What you saw on TV is the Red Bull Air Race Serie...

Re: Riding Motorcycles When You Have Young Kids At Home....
We see that a lot in the competitive aerobatic flying sport, a single pilot finds a spouse and soon they're not showing up anymore. One data set I've not seen in motorcycle accident statistics is amount of "recent experience". As you said, MKL, skills fade quickly when you don't ride often...

A Google search brought up a number of aftermarket options and some DIY YouTube videos. I doubt you'll find a R1100R seat all ready to go, but rather have to modify one.

Your second link is for RT's, not R's. Don't think that'll work.
Do you Facebook? There is a group, BMW R1100R - The Shelter Dogs, and the creator of that group did a nice tubular conversion on his bike. It's be worth checking that out.

Excellent!
I did try that with mine, but didn't get the same result. Of course, my bike sat outside for one or two years before I bought it...

Re: Heated Grips Control
I stand corrected, the "Facelift Switch" for my bike does not list the RT in the part number.
However, changing the switch did fix my grips no warming up.

Re: Heated Grips Control
I just replaced the switch on my 2000 R1100R, even though my instrument cluster is different, I'm sure the overall design is the same. Yes, the 3 position switch is for the heated grips. The switch wires go from the cluster to a plug under the tank. I did not trace the entire system, but my guess is...

Re: Front brake lines
Just for the record under this topic.
Spiegler makes a "plug and play" system for the R1100R, front and back.

Installation was a piece of cake.

Overhauling Shocks
I've put about 30,000 on my bike in the last three years, and I doubt highly that the previous owners did any shock maintenance, so I figure it's time. New shocks are shockingly high priced. Sending them out for rebuild is not far behind. Seen a couple YouTube videos, doesn't look like rocket scienc...

Bottoming out? No, not normal. May need to service the struts or repair/replace the shock.
