Re: Engine Dies Under Full Throttle Acceleration
You can check all the tank innards by setting up the fuel returning from the fuel distributor to collect in a tank. In one minute at idle you should collect 2 liters. If you do, all is good--hoses, pump and filter. If the test is a lot less than two liters I'd suspect the in-tank hoses. What year a...

Re: Need to Replace a Clutch
Jasondo, I kind of feel silly - boy crying wolf. It sure acted like a clutch that was wore out. Nonetheless, I will probably still crack the bike in half to lube the clutch spline this winter. What can I say, I'm a glutton for punishment. When I do, I am thinking that I will also do CycleRob's clutc...

Re: Engine Dies Under Full Throttle Acceleration
Also change the air filter and check that a mouse or whatever has not partially blocked up the intake with bedding or food. This could be drawn into the filter under full throttle. An easier diy job than the fuel filter replacement (which I left to the dealer). Will definitely do this, but, the bike...

Re: Engine Dies Under Full Throttle Acceleration
MMH, The bike is 13 years old. I say the fuel filter is too clogged up to pass full throttle flow. The symptoms you describe are exactly that. By the odometer reading my guess is that it has never been replaced. It is as likely to be gummed up by old fuel breakdown as by rust particles. The factory...

Re: Engine Dies Under Full Throttle Acceleration
curious one there....does it idle ok? we have the same model. motronic could be outta whack. recalibrate it. try: pull the motronic fuse (#5) for awhile. OR disconnect batt. 15min+ then put motronic fuse back in and, (turn key and do the full throttle crank ALL THE WAY TO STOP slowly 3 times) then ...

I just got the bike, and do not know if the problem crept up on the previous owner or not.Roger 04 rt wrote:How long has this been happening? Did it just happen suddenly or after service or did it creep up on you?

Re: Engine Dies Under Full Throttle Acceleration
It is a 2002 w/ 31K miles & single spark. I just bought the bike a month ago & am still vetting out issues.
BTW, I hope that I can get away w/not doing anything for another month or two then really get after ALL the maintenance items (including the clutch spline lube).

Engine Dies Under Full Throttle Acceleration
When I accelerate briskly (i.e. give it full throttle) the engine seems to die for a second or so (as if it totally ran out of fuel)., it goes full throttle for about 1 second, then dies for about 1/2 a second, then starts pulling again. If I accelerate w/ 75% throttle (or less), this does not happe...

Re: Need to Replace a Clutch
Well, it appears as if my clutch is OK after all. Seems like the clutch lever was making slight contact w/ the GS handguards. It was barely making contact, but the slight contact must have been enough. After readjustment of the handgaurds, no clutch slip!!! Now all I have to worry about is how beat ...

Where to get Clutch Slave Cylinder
Out of stock & Beemer Boneyard will not reorder due to "lawsuit brought by BMW by Magura". Best cost I can find w/ gasket & washers is $175 (used to be $105). Can anybody get me a lead for something better than $175?

Re: MPG and Range
Fuel mileage has been brought up a few times here, it seems like the operator of the bike is the determining factor in the bikes fuel use . In my usual commute to work, the low fuel light comes on at around 170-175 miles with 87 octane fuel . If I use 91 octane fuel, the light doesn't come on until...

Re: Need to Replace a Clutch
MMH, I didn't think about the oil proof disk because it seems like an overkill and using that clutch doesn't fix the issue with my bike...I'd rather keep troubleshooting the issue until I find out what cause the oil leakage and fix that...I really don't feel like taking my bike apart again, so I'd ...

Re: Cam Chain Tensioner
Replaced my cam chain tensioner without removing anything. It took a total of 20 mins using the ratchet extension and universal socket elbow like the pictures in the previous post. My only problem was that I could not fit my Torque wrench on so I just tightened it to the max of what I could apply w...

A&S BMW is where I bought it. It has been working very well. I used it on our ride up to Alaska and it is waterproof. I kept all my clothes in it and carried it into the motels every night. Ask them for a sales price??? http://www.ascycles.com/detail.aspx?ID=48417 THe bag looks huge. It lists t...

My 2002 R1150R has 31K miles. The valve train is quiet, but should the tensioner be replaced as anyway? I just bought the bike & do not know if this has already been done.

MPG and Range
I recently bought a 2002 R1150R. It's been getting right at 40 mpg on the last three tanks with easy riding on backroads - shifting at 4000 to 5000 rpm, hit a stop sign every 2 or 3 miles, windy & hilly roads, etc. Does 40 mpg seem about ring? Also, when I hit 130 miles then when I accelerate br...

A new clutch is definitely necessary - see my post "Need to Replace Clutch" viewtopic.php?f=2&t=34505#p251103sjbmw wrote:I would verify that a new clutch is necessary, I have been told by many that the dry clutch is worth 100k miles or more.

lguardiola, I have seen your post - you put up some great photos that will be helpful for me. Also will be a good point of reference when comparing to what I find when I tear mine down. I'll post what I see then. Curious why you did not install a Siebenrock oil proof disk if you cannot identify the ...

30K Mile Maintenance - just got the R1150R
I just purchased a 2002 R1150R w/ 31,000 miles & plan on doing the following maintenance this winter (still plan on riding for the next couple of months): • Change engine oil & filter. • Bleed brakes & inspect pads, inspect pads, lubricate pins • Lubriricate side stand. • Adjust valve cl...
