Re: Valve adjustment results in rough start but smooth when
Glad you have the problem sorted. Don`t worry so much about the high idle revs. The high idle is just a cable that opens the throttle a small amount, nothing complicated. It is NOT a choke that affects the mixture as on most bikes. Incidently, when you do the TB balance and remove the brass tick-ove...

Re: Awful transmission noise
First thing to do is drop the oil out and check for ominous metallic bits on the magnetic plug or in the oil itself.

Wire faults around the headstock seem to be a problem for all the 11xx boxer bikes.
Best cut all the original cable ties in that area to let them hang loose!

Re: Windshield (re)installation
I struggled with these bolts when I was experimenting with different screens, but eventually found the easiest way. You need a basic L shaped torx tool of the correct size, used with the long part in the bolt head. If you try and use a socket with extensions/universal joint etc you will not be able ...

Re: How do I post a classified ad?
I would strongly encourage all to be paid members. The value of this board is far, far greater than the small price of membership. There is no choice. If you aren`t a paid up member you cannot advertise, as I recently found out when I went to post an ad for my good as new 1150R standard seat that I...

Re: Windshield (re)installation
Sounds obvious, but check you are turning it the correct way. Easy to get wrong when upside down. Also loosen the bracket on the screen in case the bracket is slightly out of line with the hole. These holes are bloody awkward to access, and are so close to the line of the forks that getting an allen...

The following is from a guide on the ukgser website which I suggest you join as the advice on there is the best anywhere for maintenance tasks. Remove plastic cap on top of fork Place a 22mm spanner on the flats at the top of the leg , under the top yolk. And the 14mm socket onto the top nut. And un...

Re: Just bought a Rockster what do I need to know?
Jesus.....after reading that list I am surprised you bought one! The failure rates are so small it isn`t worth worrying about. If the bike you have bought is as described just do normal scheduled maintenance and ride the thing :D Oils are an immotive issue and everybody has an opinion. Mine is that ...

Did it on my GS without removing wheel.
I bet if you do this regularly you could get it down to about 10 minutes a side!

Re: Farkle Regrets & Remorse
When I first got my 1150R it had a front mudguard from a K series bike (K1200 I think). I thought it looked awful so refitted the standard one which I think suits the overall design far better. Struggling to find a screen that gives as good a riding experience as my 1100GS. I have a feeling it doesn...

The good chargers will all have attachments that will work through DIN sockets, cigar lighters, crocodile clips direct to the battery etc etc .

Is filtering illegal in the States? That is rediculous. You have my sympathy. Luckily the bike has a temperature gauge so at least you can monitor what is going on. I have heard of prolonged static running causing problems with the oil sight glass i.e. it has melted and dumped the oil on the tarmac....

A radio is irrelevant for communication and these bikes didn`t come with a communication system. You have to add your own.
As for point 2, I can`t help as I wouldn`t be stuck for long. That`s why I ride a bike

Re: Maintenance: Truth or fiction?
The 1100 and 1150 need oil and filter, valve adjustments and throttle bodies balanced every 6K miles. Gearbox and final drive oils every 12K miles. I am just a keen amateur and can do the lot in an hour and a half. The valves are easy peasy. Just pull up a stool and away you go. None of this tank re...

Re: Why lean forward so much?
You can fit risers which are effectively just spacers that go between the yoke and the bars. The move the bars up and towards you slightly. I had an 1100RT for a while and fitted them to mine. They improved it, but it was still nowhere near as nice ergonimically as my 1100GS. I didn`t keep it for long
