Re: Good bye and thanks
Thanks to everyone for the kind comments. One day when I have the time to ride, I'll get nother bike. But, I can say in all honesty, the next one won't be a BMW. Situations like towerworker is dealing with have taught me that maybe a chain I can see and work on have some big advantages over a failur...

Good bye and thanks
My R1150R is now a memory, sold back to the selling dealer. I found that in the last year I had only put 1500 miles on the bike and just felt it was time to let go of it. It was my first bike and I put a lot of thought into what to buy and don't regret my decision. I never had any real problem with ...

Re: Best Dirty Bike Wash?
Others will disagree, but Simple Green, straight, has been the best for me. I had the blacked out drivetrain and it did not fade or oxidize the paint as some will say. I sprayed the bike with water first, then sprayed a liberal amount of SG everywhere, let it set about two minutes, then rinsed it of...

Re: Any suggestions for removing boot scuffs from system cases?
The ArmorAll and 0000 steel wool method does work, but requires patience. Rub with firm pressure for at least three or four minutes in a circular motion. Almost all of the scuffs on my cases have come off and have remained gone.

Re: Attention NYC motorcyclists!
Revolt against opressive state and federal rules that are supposedly 'for your own good'. Now, they say they are planning to tax dairymen for their cattles' belches and farts. I am not making this up. Vote out the bastards on the city council who think this is good government. And it's not coming to...

I hate to climb on my soapbox, but when are people going to revolt against this kind of crap? Personal property rights are the foundation of liberty.

Re: Fuel disconnect sources
I don't know about other sources for the metal fittings, but I came across these when I was looking up the grip heaters in another post:
http://www.aerostich.com/catalog/US/Gas ... 17075.html
Anyone have experience with them?

Re: BMW charger?
I hate to differ, but I've been using a Deltran, not BMW, charger for almost six years via the plug installed on the bike without problems. I think you only need the BMW branded charger if you have a BMW gel battery, and even then, I thought this was discussed on the board somewhere as being a purel...

I believe the SS lines began with the twin spark models than came out midyear in 2003. My early 2003 is single spark and has rubber lines.

Re: What if I run out of fuel...?
I ran out (only once!) on I-65, at night, in a construction zone, with NO shoulder and jersey barriers blocking any exit. The most frightening time of my life. I had no choice but walk the bike about 400 yards to get past the barriers. I called the BMW Roadside Assist guys and they showed up in abou...

You are aware of the factory rack/cover that replaces the rear seat, or are you asking for an aftermarket solution?

Re: IS THE R1150R WORTHLESS IN THE RAIN??????
The first year I had mine(2003), I rode an 80 mile commute every day but ten days of the year. Rain, sleet, and snow. Never an issue. Ten hour ride to WV, all in the rain, no problems.

Re: Cleaning guide
gregor,
There is an S100 product that returns the black parts to glossy black for some time. I am not home now so I can't provide the exact name. It comes in an aerosol can and lasts quite a while( I bought my first and only can in 2003!)

Loree,
This page at newenough.com might have what you are looking for:

I seem to remember that Wunderlich also had some sort of replacements, but at a premium price.

Re: What is your favorite gear line up?
So far I have been very happy with everything from FirstGear, both leather and textile or mesh. The Sidi boots are excellent, but I can't recommend them for wide feet. I have the On Roads, but they are just a bit too narrow for me. I believe some of their boots are available in wide, however. I also...

Sounds like you removed the bolt I was asking about in this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=15201
As others have said, not the oil drain plug. Exactly what this other bolt is for, I still am not sure.
