Re: an aromatic slow ride
Riding a dry clutch is bad ju-ju. Possible it got some heat in it and made some stank.

Re: Rear tire question
I'm running a 170 on the R11R stock 4.5" three spoke alloy. No problems. Caveat: no clearance to remove the wheel without moving the caliper first.

Re: New guy here
Surging is common and often can be 90% mitigated by getting the engine in good tune. Plugs, valve adjustments, TB sync. A booster plug can help, but is a bandaid unless you have your ducks in a row. It's one of those "they all do it" things, but you can greatly reduce how far it intrudes i...

Airman, PM sent regarding the TruckLite and your problems on install. Wondering if I would run into the same problems with an R11R headlight.

Re: New guy here
Lots of folks with well over 80K on their bikes. Not a concern, especially if you're down with doing your own work. If you get it, check it over really well for the iffy spots they all have (lots of info here on the site). If it's solid, do a full maintenance so you have a baseline (barring a comple...

Sometimes the easiest answer is the right one. Sometimes, but not often. (says the guy grounded with the busted Hall Effect sensor)

Re: engine cutting out
If the vents to the tank are blocked it can create a vacuum and work against the fuel pump. Bike dies from fuel starvation, pump cuts out, pressure equalizes, bike can start again.
Just an idea.

Re: engine cutting out
My money's on coils or hall effect sensor.
Next time the bike dies, try and open the fuel cap. If it's under vacuum that could solve your problem quickly.

Re: more than 50K mileage on r1150gs
My take is to do a routine major servicing (sort of thing I'd do when getting any new-to-me bike, fluids, plugs, any recommended factory adjustments to spec) and call it good. If it's not broken, don't worry about fixing it. Tuneup, learn how to get the valves in spec and RIDE! :D My 1100R has 150K ...

Great read, as always. Inspires me to read other people's reports.
Hopefully will have my own to do next month as my best friend and I are doing 5 days in the White Mountains.

Rear seat replacement cowl
Was looking at my bike today with the rear seat removed while I was into the tool kit. Anyone know of a rear seat replacement? Should have been an easy thing to manufacture since the rear seat affixes so easily and firmly. Could be a good place for some onboard storage, too. Not a big TLR bump, but ...

This is on my list of "to-dos" for my 11R. Looking forward to seeing your finished results.

Yes. I used a longer replacement for the bar end bolt I got at Fastenal. Took the stock one in and asked for one 20mm longer. Cost less than $3.
