Thanks guys. Got the nut off and installed a hollow nut with a speed bleeder from Mx BMW. The brake pads were fine and did not need any replacement.
Ready for the 2021 rides around the Twin Cities.

Rear brake vent nut sheared off
Brother BMW bikers, Was working on flushing the rear brakes before the start of the riding season in Minnesota and ended up with a sheared off the nipple. The vent nut is unyielding - so far. It is still seated so the brakes work jut fine but I am not going to risk a ride with the current situation....

Changing brake lines on a 2003 R1150R Non ABS
Had the misfortune of blowing the front brake line on a ride about 20 miles from home on the first ride after winter. Limped back home on the rear brake ...which was not so bad because both circuits are independent. MN weather can be brutal on the bike and its age did not help. The bike came with or...

Re: Replacing the battery on a 2003 R1150R
Update ... bought the battery my brother bikers recommended and put it into the bike. I now see that there is about a 1/4th inch play in the cradle for the battery to move around. Given the weight of the battery and the restrictions of space, I don't think it should be a problem but I am wondering i...

Replacing the battery on a 2003 R1150R
Winter made an early exit in Minnesota and I was hoping to get the 2003 R1150R out this weekend but the battery seems to have died. I had it on a Battery Tender all winter and the light glowed green but when I tried to start it all I hear is the clicking sound. I have owned the bike for three years ...

Re: Cracked handgrip
Thanks folks.
I would have liked to replace the grip by cutting it away but am vary of destroying the heating loom. I will watch out for further degradation and till then I will use an over grip as suggested.
I appreciate your guidance.

Cracked handgrip
Took out my 2002 R1150R after a severe winter and noticed that the right side hand grip has a horizontal tear about 3 inches long and about 1/8 inch wide. The heating still works and there is nothing that seems to be wrong except the tear.
Any suggestions from the wise folks on the forum ?

Re: The new BMW R nineT
Saw the R9T in Minneapolis during the Motorcycle show and have to admit I was disappointed. The pictures look great but up close it looks rather crude. The designers have produced a bike meant to be cheap and it looks it. The R1200R displayed nearby looked far more 'complete' and 'BMW like' as compa...

Sound of a BMW R1150R
I love my bike and the way it handles but somewhere down the line the sound of the exhaust leaves me wanting more. The current 'lawnmower on steroids' sound of the bike can definitely do with a makeover. I don't mean that I want to wake up the neighborhood but something more.....
Any suggestions.

Re: Project Heretic
Wow That is quite a project. Do you have a temperature sensor to monitor the thermal load on the engine. I would think that would be critical to performance. what good is extra air if it too hot ...it will expand and the volumetric efficiency will remain unchanged even with additional air in the man...
