Re: Do we need more users?
Riceburner, I have a feeling you type much faster than most of us as you are a software engineer. I have to relog in every time I click The reply button to get to this area and start a reply. Then I usually take too long typing and when I hit submit get the "You have to be logged in to reply bl...

Re: Front Brake Pads
I like EBC and Galfer both. Pad compound is probably more of the question and really depends on how hard you ride. Galfer offers semi metallic which would be a good oem all around pad or the HH Sintered for a more performance oriented pad. In EBC you would be looking at the organic pads for OEM repl...

Re: Backfire & Stalling when at operating temperature
Coil is heating up and failing. Like swamper said you can have spark out of the cylinder but the coil won't provide enough voltage to jump the gap under compression.

Re: disappearing post
I honestly figured the site owners were tired of running the site and were trying to kill it by deleting threads.

Re: Instrument Internal Lighting
All of the bulbs are the same. I replaced all of mine with LEDs but don't remember the number. The low fuel light flashes very quickly when you first turn the key on so you know it's in the right way. One thing to keep in mind is that you want to use matching colored LEDs behind colored lenses. I th...

Re: Ohlins rebuild
Ted quoted me $300 each and another $150 for the preload adjuster minimum with a 4 week turnaround "If we have all the parts they need in stock." So MINIMUM $750 and 4 weeks. I had Ohlins USA do them and it cost $475 with a 2 week turnaround. I know who I'll go with again whenever I need a...

Re: Final drive bearings
I just got the main bearing for my r1100s and haven't needed anything special so far. All I've done is take the easy bits apart though. I talked to the shop and they said all you need is a press for the main bearing. My other bearings look good so I'm leaving them alone. The drive shaft seal is leak...

Re: ABS Failure
Much to my surprise, the UK MOT brake test on rollers was done without the engine running- so the servo/ABS were not working?. The brakes worked just fine and met the requirements for a bike of this weight. Any comments? I witnessed the test. The servo brakes don't need the motor running to functio...

Re: Dot 5
I have a couple vehicles that use DOT 5 fluid and still change it every few years. It gets just as nasty as the others so I wouldn't consider it a "forever" fluid by any means. Don't know if your buddies bike has ABS but DOT 5 can't be used in an ABS system because it will foam. DOT 5.1 is...

Re: Tune up discovery
I also use autolite plugs for a couple reasons. 1) I have an 02 that surges and these mostly take care of that. 2) Because of the surge I replace plugs at the same time as oil and these are cheap plugs. Replacing the plugs often helps the surge more than the brand of plug... As for mileage I usually...

Re: Wind Screens
I have MRA vario screens on my other bikes. It looks super good on this one. I might be getting one for this bike as I'm not super happy with the bmw ones I have. I really like running with nothing unless I'm running up and down the freeway.

Re: Tire Recommendations
I ran a set of Avon Storm 2 ultra's and really liked the way they felt and performed. When those needed to be replaced I wanted to try something else just because that's how I am. I decided to try a set of Pirelli Angel GT's and absolutely love the way they feel. Seeing as I don't ride in the rain (...

Re: Should I buy another R1150R
Get one without abs and the brakes won't be a problem. I didn't like the way my R1150R felt when I first got it either. It felt very top heavy and unstable at slow speeds. I stuck with it and it feels rock steady now. I guess I just needed to get used to it but I love the way this bike feels now. Th...
