Congrats on the new bike. Personally, I really like it in white. It just "works".

Re: 6K Service Disappointment
It's a well known fact that a dealer makes a very small percentage of their income on bike sales. The $$money$$ is in the back. Milking folks who "think" their warrantee depends on having their dealer do all the service work. If I followed the manufacturer's "recommended" service...

Re: Lowered chassis
There are lowered ones. Factory option. No extra charge. Pretty popular option in the GS, but I did sit on an R1200R with the lowered chassis. I'm 5'6" with a 30" inseam. I found it to be too low. Felt like I was sitting "in" the bike, rather than "on" it. The standard ...

Visited Chapman BMW (autos) while I was in AZ. They have cars that were assembled in South Africa?

European Delivery.
Do US BMW dealers still do this? Buy a bike this side of the Atlantic, pick it up at the factory, tour Europe, ship it home? True cost?

Take it from someone who spends his days flying lawyers. Gas gauges and fuel computers are gimmicks!

Is there usually an "issue" with the yellow bulb? Texas? Anyplace else? I've heard of the "Yellow Rose of Texas".....probably not related issues?

Don, what windshield are you currently using?deilenberger wrote:Looked on their website.. and unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately for my wallet) - this model is only for the '11-12 bikes so far. Hope they decide to make it fit the earlier models.

Re: R1200R Upgrade to 2012 question
Just a FWIW - ABS is no longer an option on the 2012 bikes. It's standard equipment (right across the BMW model line..) To the OP - is it worth getting a 2012 to get ABS? If it prevents one fall-down I think the question is rhetorical. Only problem will be the difficulty selling the one you have wi...

Re: How Many $$ for an '09?
Okay so, after much fence sitting, soul searching, and no small amount of research (some here, some at advrider.com) I've "pulled the trigger" on the '09! Planning to just go with the top box and use my Wolfman soft bags. I have some days off in May so I'll be headed to get it in a couple ...

Re: R1200R Upgrade to 2012 question
Must ask yourself a simple question. What will a much improved bike do for me? Do you need more power? More speed? Nicer colour? Your 2010 will stay the course for many more years. Unless they come out with outriggers or a power centre stand, a roof maybe, or a heater and windshield wipers, a micro ...

Re: Tubed tyres losing pressure quicker than tubeless?
Don's most likely bang on. I check tyre pressure about once a month. It's always down 1-2 pounds. I'll check before a trip...again 1-2 pounds, no more, no less. It's definitely lost during the check. I'll over inflate sometimes by 2#...that way, when I check it, it's bang on! If you're going to have...

As for heading to Alaska, or TDF, even Mexico, Belize and Central America, I'll slap a couple of Happy Trails panniers on my DR650 and go that route. The R will be a pavement eater for me. I'll need windshield suggestions. The bike I'm looking at has the "sport" shield. Looks like "d...

R1200R vs. R1200GS
Before I pull the trigger on a very nice '09 I'm looking at, or even a brand spanking new R1200R in RED, how do they compare/handle etc., with a 1200GS. I rented the GS in AZ last month, and to be really honest, I didn't like it at all. Very clunky transmission, Way to heavy, although it certainly g...

Wow. You bunch of girls! Not only should you NEVER rely on a fuel gauge (I fly for a living, and the fuel gauges are just "decorations") but ALL motorcycles should have kick starters as well. I know it's a big effort to reset your trip odometers, but I'm sure you can all manage it? Wow. W...
