Re: enough on Spline Failures
40,200 miles on my '03. Splines are OK, bike shifts smoothly. Final drive is tight and smooth. It did burn an exhaust valve in January, though... it was the first vehicle to do that to me, my family, or any of my friends as far as I know.

Re: What would you do if your clutch spine failed?
I might fix it myself, then sell the bike, and never again buy a BMW, at least not with an automotive-style clutch. I might also just sell the bike outright in its failed state, at a suitable discount, and buy another bike to take its place. My bike suffered a burnt exhaust valve at the end of Janua...

Re: Clutch or Tranny Noise
Carlos, the following is copied straight out of the repair manual: 1. Tighten cylinder head nuts (oiled) in diagonally opposite sequence: 1.1 Tighten all nuts ...................................... 20 Nm 1.2 Tighten all nuts to correct angle...................90 degrees 1.3 Tighten all nuts to corre...

Re: Clutch or Tranny Noise
Eddie, If that BMW video doesn't mention the final 180 degrees of torqueing, then that's a bad omission. After the initial 20Nm torque, that final half-a-revolution twist of each head nut is necessary to put the correct pressure on the head gasket and seal the combustion chamber properly. Those four...

Re: Clutch or Tranny Noise
 Oh boy... if that is an accurate account of what you did, then I have some bad news: re-do the whole thing, and right now. Don't ride the bike another mile. The retorquing should be like this: Tightening torque After 1,000 km (600 miles), tighten cylinder head nuts in diagonally opposite seq...

Re: R1150R TB Vacuum Tubing
Have you tried grasping the tube with two fingers at the nipple and twisting hard back and forth to break it loose? That worked for me. It could help wearing a rubber glove for a better grip.

Re: Y-pipe recommendations?
Thanks for the info so far. Do these Y-pipes usually come with a rest tang for the centerstand, or do you have to lose it?

That leaves in place no muffling of any kind. Straight pipes = Extremely Loud.RichardD wrote:Why would you go back to the cat. ? Why not the Y with the short pipe extension?

Y-pipe recommendations?
This is for those of you running Y-pipes on your R1150R instead of the cat converter... what's been your experience? I'd like the bike to run a good bit cooler and sound a bit more like a motorcycle. I have a Power Commander installed so I can make adjustments to the air/fuel mixture, no worries the...

Re: HELP!!! Potential issue with transmission; 02 R1150R
After reading the above, I can't help but think that the bike is fine. As you've noticed yourself, there's a big difference in "shift quality" when you use different techniques in shifting. This shifting issue has come up quite often on the board, so I took the liberty of copying and pasti...

More like the last day of Oktoberfest. Damn, that's disappointing... but best of luck with your next bike.cone wrote:It is frustrating when things go wrong but perhaps your bike was built on a Friday.

If the repaired area doesn't leak, then I'd say you're good to go. It's odd, however, that a pinhole would open up just like that. Wonder if the fuel pressure regulator may be malfunctioning, allowing higher fuel pressure than normal? A permanent fix for this may be to replace the entire fuel pressu...

I cannot recommend Chicago BMW, unless you really need that 20% discount and you don't care how long it takes to get the order. In my opinion they have a lot of work to do yet on their website and their communications. Max BMW however is absolutely tops. Online parts fiche, exemplary communications,...

I may be wrong, but it sounds to me like the fuel line quick disconnects are not completely pushed together. If that's the case, the no-spill closing mechanism inside them is still closed, not allowing fuel to flow. The fuel pump strains against that blockage, sounding funny in the process. No fuel ...

One thing just occurred to me. Since your bike is an '04, it's a dual-spark, right? I think the Canadian models went twin-spark the same year as the US ones. This could be a defective stick coil on either of the upper spark plugs. I've read that the only way to tell if it's bad is to unplug the coil...
