Re: 07 R1200R Final Drive

I've had trouble re-mating those parts for reasons given here, but never separating them. If you have a friendly dealer, it might be worth a call or visit - I've once in a while had some fine advice come from someone in the service kiosk I get talking with. Chances are they've seen something like th...

Re: My car gets better MPG than my R1200R

The TDI is surprisingly fun and relaxing to drive - I got the panoramic sunroof. It demands about 5 litres/100 km. I can get from Toronto to Wawa (north shore Lake Superior - 950km) on a single tank of diesel. The last gasoline boxer I had (a Subaru) was also a gas hog - but it was AWD...

My car gets better MPG than my R1200R

I have a 2010 VW TDI wagon.

It's running neck & neck with the bike on fuel efficiency, if not beating it.

Pretty sad.

What tune-up areas should I focus on?

Re: Anyone Install an Air Horn On their R1200Rs?

If your horn is all that stands between you & certain death, something is wrong with your riding.

The horn, in my humble opinion, should be an offensive instrument, not a defensive one :-)

Just sayin...

Re: Auxillary light mounts

I drilled through my Motech bars to mount a set of Denali D2's and avoided paying for an additional mount kit. Worked out fine and the location suits me well. I posted a thread here on the install search denali D2...

Re: "Current" MPG on information screen???

I had what looked like the exact same instrument cluster on my 2007 F800ST and it did show point-in-time consumption. I suspect they don't want us seeing what a pig this bike is in city traffic.

Re: ABS failure

My ABS light has stopped coming on in mid-ride. I wonder if during the two or three weeks between when I refreshed the rear tire and the front tire (new rear went on first), the changed outer circumference ratio between the two tires would have yielded different enough speed data via the sensors to ...

Re: Are there any mean, dirty, tough-guy looking r1200r's?

This is kinda like asking "Is there any mean & dirty, tough-guy-looking farm equipment out there?" And to the chap with the white bike... hello? Mean & dirty? Tough guy? I don't think so... Looks like the sorta bike you'd only see in a war if it had a red cross on the side of it. S...

Re: What tire Gauge you using?

Talk of burning hands on rotors is concerning. Why are they so hot? Mine cool down relatively quickly after a ride. And unless you are taking measurements at the track to manage pressure very closely while monitoring what's going on with the tire itself, isn't tire pressure meant to be set when the ...

Re: frame clamp/mount for doo-dads

Thanks, I'll look into the RAM option - I find those parts kind of clunky and obtrusive - I'm thinking small, invisible and elegant (or just invisible). Perhaps I'll just fashion something from aluminum if I can't find a bit of RAM stuff in the basement that fits the bill.

frame clamp/mount for doo-dads

Anyone have a quick & easy method for mounting goo-gahs to the frame? E.g., say I want to put an electrical box or switch or other doo-dad some where on the frame - I envision a single tab of plastic or metal, curved to go perhaps half-way around a frame member that could then be zip-tied or oth...

Re: Has the new BMW naked twin caught anyone else's eye?

Love it. Looks like a good one for roaring around town, if one could keep a second more civilized bike for carrying passengers & other stuff, which I can't at present. At that weight & with the beefed up Rotax parallel twin powerplant, there's no doubt she'd be a lively ride. "First loo...

Re: Front tire refresh

I started keeping a spreadsheet of torques so I'm not always into the book with dirty hands and so I have converted values handy - the Haynes manual & BMW give torques in Nm and my wrench scale is in/lb. Odd that I can only find a wrench using in/lb that will take me up to the rear wheel bolt to...

Front tire refresh

Well, after what felt like a cage fight with the rear tire a couple weeks ago, I steeled myself to tackle the front today. Nice sunny day & one lesson learned last time is the midday sun is better for warming up both the old and new tires than basement fluorescent lighting after dark. So once th...

Re: throttle stuck open...........???

Interesting that this was something down the intake - when I did my Denali lights I had the tank off, looked in the airbox for the first time & there was no filter there. Nothing. So I imagine there's some sloppy work going on that part of the line wherever these bikes are assembled, and the fel...

Re: Trivial issue with signal cancel switch

Loosing the click is a failure inside the switch. Not totally uncommon - it's been mentioned a number of times on the BMW-MOA Hexhead forums. Fix is a new switch, which is not inexpensive.. Thanks - I figured some nub of plastic has broken off somewhere inside the thing... I may just survive withou...
