Re: Forgive me brothers, . . .

Harry, I'm not married to Spectro 4, it's just what I have experience with. Given that I've been changing the oil way too often, almost anything will be cheaper. Newportcycle, I've stayed away from the oil threads before now, but yes you are right that 3K mi intervals is substantial overkill. I'll m...

Forgive me brothers, . . .

But I need some up-to-date advice on oil brands. My local independent (Chris Harris) no longer sells parts, so I need to shop around for the best prices for oil & filters. Chris had me using Spectro 4 20w-50 since new (now @ 40K mi), and I have had no problems and have no complaints. But times c...

Well said Peels. A quite balanced comparison of the three bikes.

Re: Need help with Electrical Problem

Thanks all for your help. Turns out it was a dead battery. I guess seven years is long enough for the original battery when given no care at all. The bike winters in my basement, but other than that I did nothing to extend the life of the original battery. I tested then old battery just before insta...

Need help with Electrical Problem

On my second day out this season (2010 R12R, 40K mi), after a short 40 mi ride, I stopped the engine for about 5 minutes to run into a store. When I tried to restart, when I hit the starter button (no starter) but the OBC screen went suddenly blank. When I turned the key to "OFF" the Tach ...

Re: When is it time to practice taking a passenger in an emp

All the advise given previously is spot on. I choose to avoid passengers for reasons I'll explain a bit later. But first, a couple of posts really struck a chord with me: I'd say take your time and get better at riding solo before attempting to take a passenger. Passengers change the dynamics of rid...

Re: How to handle onramp traffic while riding in the right l

Great advice in the precious posts. Every situation is different. I'm a right-lane rider and driver, so I have to deal with merging traffic both when I ride and when I drive. I understand why people say to stay in the left lane, but for me the escape options always work better in the rightmost lane....

I just read the 3 pages of your original post and the responses. You are probably all full-up on advise, but you asked and I have an opinion, so . . here goes. The big boxer is a lot of bike to start out on . . BUT . . it's such a dream that as long as you can control your right wrist . .the love wi...

Re: Riding in strong wind

From Sea Kayaking I learned to pay close attention to the weather in general and the wind in particular. We used something called the Beaufort Wind Scale which was developed for large square-rigged ships but works very well for wind speed / strength estimations. The pdf link below is a land version ...

Re: New R1200R!

Joe, Don't you / didn't you own both the New LC R1200R and the NineT? I'm curious about your impressions of the NineT vs the new LC R12R. The difference may be a bit academic for me since my 2010 R12R already has more potential to win performance awards than my current driving record can tolerate. I...

Re: Who's Tire Pressure Recommendations Do I Follow?

Well, cold weather and winter is upon us. It would be a good idea to change out that old stale and warm winter air in your tires for fresh cold winter air. Your tires will feel so much better and you'll immediately realize a handling and traction benefit. Plus if you do get caught out when the snow...

Re: Torque values for R12R wheel(s) remount

Roger, Thanks so much for the quick response. This was my first “wheels off the bike” tire replacement. Unfortunately my local independent guy is taking some much-deserved time off, so I needed to find a way to do as much of the work as possible myself. As you know it’s a dead easy job as long as yo...

Re: Another Tire Thread

Thanks for the quick responses guys. Are the stories about PR3's being noisy accurate or just another inter'webs rumor? It sounds like everyone is happy with the PR3's - maybe I'll take the plunge and sign-up to be the PR4 test dummy. My mileage has dropped quite a bit the past two years so it looks...

Another Tire Thread

I've searched the forums for recent tire recommendations but found nothing. What do you guys like these days for tires on the R12R? Do we have any longer-term reviews of the PR3's and the Z8's?

cheers,

Re: Riding with earbuds and music

I used to ride with music all the time, but over time the volumes required to listen to music over the road and wind noise means your ears will sustain damage from long-term exposure to high (combined) volumes. I no longer ride with music and always ride with the best ear plugs I can find. Like many...

Re: ABS Question

I don't see how. Optical would require 1) a light source (not neccessarily visible light) and 2) a light detector as well as the slotted "ABS" ring. Magnetic makes the most sense.

Re: upgrade R1200R non-ABS to ABS

There is various opinions on the forum regarding pro ABS and Non-ABS. I have currently the R1150R Rockster with ABS and never really used it to its full extend. In going the R1200R non ABS option I am concerned that I will fly over the handlebars or slide all the way to the accident as this functio...
