Re: So I am the only one that comes here anymore..

Re: So I am the only one that comes here anymore..
Replaced the steering damper on my '06 as it was spewing, and no doubt no longer damping.

Re: Power Socket
As long as my charging indicator doesn't light, can I use my heated liner, handlebar heat, and high beam with no worries? Anyone here doing that?

Re: Power Socket
Yes but: I RTFM'd and found that the socket will shut itself off if the draw exceeds 5 amps. The jacket liner is a 10 amp device, so the power socket is performing as it should. Disappointed that I have to use the kludgy battery harness, but so it goes.

Power Socket
In the event anyone drops by... Just bought a Hotwired heated jacket liner at Cycle Gear. It works fine using the included fused battery harness, but when I plug it into the R's outlet, its pilot light comes on briefly and then goes dark, and it does not heat. No dashboard message. I've confirmed th...

Re: Noise from Michelin Road 5
Been running Roadsmart 3s for some time now. Seem fine, don't notice noise, leaning into turns brings no surprises. Have 9,100 on the current set, may have to replace the rear at 10K but the front will go longer.

Reminds me of how you turn the parking lights on, in that without the key you cannot turn them off!

Re: All keys locked in system case :
You can lock the cases without the key? What, do you turn the key to "lock" before closing and cinching it?

Re: weight with passenger
I think some manufacturers make rear tires in our size that can carry extra weight.

I had it done by my indie today, and it was as you describe, remove wheel and fender. Wow, was that glorified shock absorber expensive!

Re: Steering damper droop. Easy fix.
I need to replace the damper on my '07. Is it as simple as it looks, attach it via the nut to the steering head and the screw in the cylindrical part? I will also replace the rubbery ring.

Re: Old Fourm members
I'm test driving a Honda CTX700DCT later today. The seat's much lower than I need, but that's OK. I'm really intrigued by the automatic (I know, it's technically not) transmission. If I get it I would still keep the R, which is indeed a magnificent bike.

Re: Encouragement to change spark plugs
I also experienced a pronounced roughness just before the service when plugs were to be replaced, when the plugs had about 20-24K on them. After the bike was serviced it was nice and smooth, and I attribute that to the plug change. When I brought the bike in to my indy for the 6K stuff just the othe...

Re: Windshield Turbulence
Just picked up a used MRA from a neighbor and experimented a bit with it. The hand-in-front-of-face test seems to indicate best results with the MRA up high and well raked. I'm not in still air, probably because my windshield is so narrow. I may yet get another windshield, but the MRA seems to help....

Re: Windshield Turbulence
You know, I think it's just time for a new windshield, because that second generation Cee Bailey's is just too short and too narrow, and I want some more comfort as I slouch into senescence. So, what do I get? That CalSci got a very bad review here, but I see that Parabellum is still in the game wit...

Re: Windshield Turbulence
Thanks for that, I'll give the tilt a try--I do recall some of the stuff you mentioned from way back. My guess is that the tilt accelerates the air flow, and the turbulence sets in further back. Funny, things seemed fine until I got the excellent new helmet. Sometimes I duck behind the Cee Bailey an...
