I also use an OnGuard lock, their disc lock. One tip to prevent theft is to use two different types of locks. Not only do two locks slow them down but from what I've read theifs usually come prepared for one type of lock, not two.

I picked my bike from the stealer today. They did a throttle body synch and fixed a rear drive seal leak.

While on the highway I opened teh throttle hard at about 3800 rpm - heard teh ringing sound. Then I did it again at about 4200 rpm - no ringing.

Mine did this too, and it sounds to me like pinging. I asked the dealer about it and he told me if the valves are out of adjustment it could make that noise too. Try adjusting the valves and see what happens. I know mine was better after I adjusted them. Hmm, I might try adjusting valves. I adjuste...

Its not the cat, I replaced it with a staintune collector box last June. I put on 12,000 miles since swapping the cat for the collector box. I've only heard the ringing sound a couple times so far in the past couple of weeks. Maybe it is pinging. Maybe I should try a different gas station? I've been...

Rattling sound under hard throttle

Hey guys and gals, I need some help on possible causes of a rattling sound I have heard a couple times now when quickly opening the throttle (while rolling already). The bike is perfectly normal when riding at an average pace. But in the last week there were two instances where i went from about 1/3...

DJ,

You are a great contributor to this board. You pictures are awesome. I'm very sorry to hear about your mishap. I guess it happens even to the best of us. The bike can be fixed or replaced easily enough. Hopefully there isn't any pychological damage. Get back on that horse!

I went 2-up yesterday on a first date. She also rides but doesn't have a bike herself right now. No complaints, in fact she said it was very enjoyable and put a smile on her face. Now thatI'm back in the dating world, I'm starting to think that this bike IS a chick magnet. I used to think that was j...

Re: Tell me bad things about you R1150R

I've owned several motorcycles before, but never a BMW. I'm looking at buying a used R1150R (w/ABS) in the next year or so, and I would like to hear some BAD things about them. Tell me some things to watch for when buying a used Roadster. I can find plenty of good things, but bad things are harder ...

Fortunately or unfortunately, for me, here in tourist country hardly a ride goes by without at least one car being over the center line in a curve, so I try to be prepared. Hence my cautionary 75% goal. You have to make up for the other guy's lack of sense! :? Unfortunately you don't have to live i...

I'm only 150 lbs and I crank the rear preload to mid position. With gear or a passenger I crank it all the way up. I set the rebound adjusters to halfway. I find the firmer ride better. The bike handles the curves better too. If you're going to be riding very aggressively I suggest getting your butt...

I think using paypal is the way to go. Its free to sign up for an account. However, you would like to try the part and if it doesn't fit or maybe you don;t like it then send it back. Again, not a good deal for the seller since if he sends it to you then he must turn down any other offers. By the tim...

I've had what I thought was a very close friend fail me, you certainly did not fail your friend. Quite the opposite in fact. I agree with the other posts, your friend most definetly had too big of a bike for his first. I wouldn't go as far as buying a vespa but he should definetly swallow his pride ...

I had a Givi windscreen painted to match my bike and found that a BMW automobile paint color happened to match the piedmont red of my bike perfectly. Maybe its the same with other colors.

If I were the seller I wouldn't do it. As great as most people here on the boards are, your deal places all the risk on the seller, who doesn't know you or have any assurances of receiving payment.

I see. From what I understand the R1150R is a vast improvement over the 1100. I don't know what the price difference is but if its a grand or less I would say its worth the money if you plan on keeping the bike for a while.

That was my experience. I got about 6000 miles out of my Diablos before wear was significant and I guessed I could get about 1000 more. I got about 10K out of the rear of my Z6 before it needed replacement and I'm going on 12K with the front and it still looks good. But I also thought the Diablos ha...

So,.....why is it that the dealer isn't named????? :?

Is there some fear of litigation for naming a dealer than did poor work and damaged a customer's bike. I don't get it. What are people afraid of?

I had a pair. They handled better than the Z6's but won't last as long. They're a good set of tires.

Unfortunately, this dealership has done more that one job for me and both were very poor. Its unlike any BMW dealer I have ever been to. They did finally make the first blunder right when the bike was almost new. As a last resort, I had to bark abit. That is never my first choice. As for the oil, I...
