Test rode an r1200r today
Hello: I happen to stop by an the local bmw dealership (Foothills BMW) today, and they had a couple of the new r1200r. One of them available for demo rides. I could not say no. I currently own an '04 r1150r. Here are my observations: 1. Seems like I sat a little bit more upright with the new bike. C...

Touch painting a helmet
Hello: Recently I purchased a helmet. As luck would have it, I nicked it after only a couple of weeks. Granted this might be a bit of a vanity thing (if the helmet was a couple of years old, I would not care), but does anybody know if it is ok to touch paint the helmet, to hide the nick, with paint ...

Combat Touring
Hello: I have been using the combat touring boots for about three years now. For the most part, I like them, but they do require a break in period, and Nikwax (or some other wax) to water proof. When I first got them, I walked like Frankenstein. They are very stiff at first. It will take a couple of...

AV s/w
Talking of AV software. I have been very annoyed with both Norton and Mcafee. Personally, I don't care for either one of them. They are so bloated, and therefore susceptible to bugs. For the past few years, I have been using a program called F-Prot (not to be confused with F-Secure). It is pretty st...

starting issue
Hello:
I used to have a starting issue with my '04 during the Winter months (Colorado, USA). Dealer suggested switching from 20W-50 to 10W-40. It did the trick for me. Although, unlike you, I do not have "smoke" coming out of the tailpipe. Steam yes, once the bike warms up a bit.

Advice needed - children's helmet
Hello: I am in the market for a child's helmet. Visiting the local stores has been a fruitless exercise. The Shoei xs seems to fit, but it is obviously too heavy for her (her head wobbles). She is almost 6 years old. So, any overall advice, i.e. brand names, suggestions, places (probably online) whe...

Concerning Schuberth Helmets
Hello: I have been in a the market for a new helmet and finally decided on a Schuberth. When I got ready to buy it, I found out that they are becoming a rare commodity in my neck of the woods (Colorado). I called Helmet Harbor to place an order. There, the customer rep informed me that they had not ...

Where to buy a helmet
Hello: Looking to purchase a new helmet. I have not quite decided which one I want. I have narrowed it down to Shoei rf-1000, Schuberth C2, or Nolan N102. Not necessarily looking for feedback on the helmets, but mostly interested in where to find the better/best prices for them. I do have a question...

Re: Your favorite jacket and gloves?
I need to purchase a jacket and a pair of gloves and need advice from those who have been there, done that. I have been using a "bomber" jacket for the last month and I like the leather and tall collar, but it's not suitable for riding because it's too flappy. What really narrows my choic...

Prior to the beginning of this thread, I had not heard of KOA roadside assistance. I decided to visit their web site. Nice features. Spousal units are included in the plan, and basically all wheeled vehicles are covered with unlimited mileage to the closest shop. At the moment they are asking around...

Re: New rider
Hello, I'm new to the list and really new to BMW's. I am heading for a trip to N.Z. and am renting an R1150R. I haven't ridden a BMW or many modern bike. I own a Norton Commando now. I just wanted to know if there were any tricks for starting "hot or cold" that I should know. I looked at ...

CC Service
I ended up using CC literally less than a week before my 3 year warranty expired. The fuel lines started to leak. Imagine the odds. In any case, I called CC and I was very pleasantly surprised as to how well it all went. The operator told me there would be somebody there in 45 minutes. Almost to the...

Cleaning Products
I often use S100 by Honda. The cleaner is not used as often, but I do use their wax and detail product quite a bit. For the shield, system cases, and black trim I use Plexus.

Inner bags
Hello: I have a 2004 R, the fastest color. I am considering getting the inner bags for my system cases. If I understood correctly, their cost is at around $200 (give or take). Main reason being that I am thinking it might be more convenient to carry them in/out of a hotel/house than having to carry ...
