Re: Parking Outside

You probably can't kill it, but leaving outside the whole day every day you'll find a remarkable number of things that rust.

Re: Would you consider a 2002 Fat Boy as a second bike, why or why not?

To the original question, no because I only have use for 1 bike, and the R1200GS fits the bill for everything I ever do.

Re: All in one biking boots: tall sole, weatherproof, no laces, and work appropriate

I got some BMW Urban Boots in black about a year ago for precisely this reason. Really didn't like them at all. The upper kind of flopped/sagged when walking, giving the impression of wearing wellies. Didn't feel right at work. Sold them (for almost what I paid). For boots to wear on the bike and ta...

That makes 2 of us, probably more.

Also just to check in, for old times sake.

Re: BMW waterproof gear-anybody use it?

From the BMW stuff I've bought: Suits: - Street Guard is totally waterproof - Cover-All is good for showers, and heavier rain, if you're doing a reasonable speed. In really heavy rain and stop/start in town or slowly filtering the bottom of the main zip is definitely not waterproof and you end up lo...

Re: Driver pulls gun on biker...

Both sides a bit bonkers and need to chill out, but the best argument I've seen in a while for people not to routinely carry guns.

I love the US big time, but that kind of thing makes me happy to be living this side of the pond.

Re: Happy Christmas!

Many thanks for the kind words. I haven't any plans to be in your part of the world, but certainly will try to meet up if I am.

I also dropped by the other place, which still has many of the old guard.

Cheers

Re: Happy Christmas!

We seem to be the only ones here, from the old days or otherwise. A forgotten outpost in cyberspace. Shame, since it used to be so vibrant.

We're in the UK now, Woking to be precise. Great for the kids (now have 3 of them), but not as interesting as Warsaw.

Happy Christmas!

Happy Christmas to any around from the old days (or anyone new I don't know).

And in memory especially of Pat and Mike Cam.

Best wishes

After seeing the post about Patrick and now this one, very sad.

Again, about a year ago, but my thoughts are with his family.

Re: A sad farewell to one of the forums founder members...

I've only just seen this, just having a look at things on the net. Incredibly sad. Such a great guy to have exchanged banter with many times back in the old days on this forum. I remember he wanted to know what a certain after market pipe sounded like so I phoned him from Poland so he could hear it....

Re: Aftermarket Sidecases/Saddlebags for the R12R

+1 for the BMW panniers. Downsides for me are: quite heavy to carry; MacBook Pro just fits, but an extra inch or so would help; quite pricey; and, as with most BMW panniers, lack of compatibility with other bikes. If you can live with those, great panniers. Sturdy, good, foolproof and unobtrusive cl...

Re: Farklers, do you miss your naked R?

Hi I had a 1200GS for a few years and recently replaced it with an R1200R. I don't really do touring as such, but do use it to travel to work. Last week Belgium/Netherlands (about 650 miles), this week just Belgium (about 550 miles). I have the standard panniers and fitted the BMW high screen since ...

Good advice on using cold water, but let the bike cool down first since otherwise you may as well use warm water. The reason is not so much that the warm water itself is harmful but rather that it dissolves the salt and pushes the saline solution it into the corners and holes which are difficult to ...

Another irresistable topic. They ride fine through the winter. Down to about -18C at least for shortish trips and about -5C for anything over 6 hours or so. Longer than that and a fairing is nice. The worst is when you get that freezing rain and a thick layer of solid ice builds up on your visor - t...

Feels like being home again. I really will try and make it over, it would be a shame not to whilst in the area. I must admit the 800 is one that is up there on the list for when in the not too distant future I'm back on 2 (powered) wheels. Saw one at the local dealer and I feel a test ride coming on...
