That's kinda what I was thinking. No big particles that I could see. Thanks!bransan wrote:No Worries! Just don't want to see any sparkles.

Final Drive Fluid?
When I had changed my final drive fluid this last time, there was a little bit of greyish sludge clinging to the drain plug. The fuild was a little discolored too. I'm assuming this is a sign of wear somewhere in the FD. What is it and is it anything to be alarmed about? The bike has 30k miles and t...

Re: Newbie Introduction plus a couple of questions
One thing I find interesting about this bike - and probably all other boxers - and I have not seen any comments on it anywhere - is that it's quite a 'snatchy' ride. It will probably take time to get used to the boxer after a smooth inline-four, but having ridden it a few times since I had it, I'm ...

Re: Initial Report:Conti Road Attacks
I have been curious to try the Road Attacks on the Rockster, but I am hesitant due to not liking them when I had them on my Kawi ZX1100. They handled very strange on that bike. Maybe they would be different on the Rockster. I don't remember them being any more slippery when cold than any other tire....

Re: Tire Balancing
I once had a tire that the dealer was having a hard time balancing. He recommended the Dyna Beads, so we used them and they helped the tire to be much smoother than with the weights. I took like 5 oz's of weight to get the tire to balance. Needless to say the tire was defective and was shortly there...

Re: Can a non-overdrive tranny be upgraded to overdrive?
I have heard some owners complain about the overdrive 6th gear being too high to use unless you were going 65mph+. I have the low 6th in my Rockster and wish I had the overdrive. There is very little difference between 5th and 6th gears. Only about 500 rpm difference at 70mph. I would like to have t...

Re: Considering an R1150R - newbie
It depends on how much of your own maintenance you do. If you take your bike to the dealer for everything and can afford it, get the R1200R. If you like to do your own work and the satisfaction that knowing your bike was maintained properly, get the R1150R. They are a great bike. It's just my opinio...

Re: oil filter choice
I have been using the M1-102 Mobil 1 filter for a long time on my Rockster. I don't remember where, but the Mobil 1 filter was highly recommended to me as the best filter I could get regardless of cost. I have tried the Purolator filter a time or two and may change back to that one based on the good...

Re: Gas Prices and Octane
I've always thought it strange that my Rockster will not run well on anything less than 93 octane. It detonates bad. I can hear it with my helmet on at speed. There is even a local station that has 92 octane as their premium and that is the worst fuel I have ever ran in my bike. It really pings with...

Re: Advice on torquing valve covers please
Gaskets should be clean as well as the head surface. I don't use a torque wrench on the valve cover bolts. I use a screwdriver with the appropriate tox bit and tighten them down to where they are just snug and won't turn anymore. No need for a hurculean grip or anything. I've never had a leak. Same ...

Re: Which Exhaust?
I have a few observations that may add a little to this thread. I have ran all of the following configurations of exhaust on the Rockster: Stock full system Stock cat and DJ mod Two Brothers Y-pipe and muffler Two Brothers Y-pipe and no muffler (only started the bike for a few seconds like this) Two...

Re: enough on Spline Failures
I have 28,800 miles on the Rockster now. It's a 2004 and I have not had any issues other than a warped front rotor that was replaced under warranty recently. I have enjoyed owning and riding this bike far more than any other I have had so far.

Glad to hear you kept the rubber side down. What exactly happened to the valve stem?
I most defintely wouldn't be using whoever mounted the last tire for you again. The rear wheel studs torque to 75ft. lbs. DO NOT let a shop use an impact to tighten them.

Re: Installed the OEM Touring Windshield
Yes i mounted as high as I could. Let me say it is still not perfect but it raised the wind to the top of my helmet not square in the face. Again still some wind noise and all but like I said a BIG improvment for me at least. i have risers/bar backs so i am sitting higher as well. i added on to my ...

I put the Laminar lip on mine and helped dramaticly. I am only 5'11' but have raised the seat 1" as well. It does kind of make it look the Queen Alien but what the hey. http://www.laminarlip.com/rockster.php I have tried the Laminar Lip with my touring screen and it didn't really have th...

Re: Aftermarket exhaust
I have a Two brothers system that I'll sell you for CHEAP. The y pipe is in good shape, the can is falling apart. I do not have the clamps for it, but I made some aluminum spacers and just used the factory clamps when I had it on. When the can crapped out on me I just got a Staintune setup... Sent ...

Re: Like New Starter
Good job Brian! My starter has also started to get a little squeaky this winter. I guess I will need to do a thorough clean up as well. It makes some noise the first few times you crank it over in the mornings, but seems to get back to normal as the bike warms up later in the day. I think the salt a...

Re: 500 Mile day! (and a question)
Are you just noticing this? Change tires recently? How long have you had your R? How many miles are on it? I have 27k miles on my Rockster and on the original shocks and I am starting to notice a little bit of wallowing when pressing hard in high speed sweepers. Slower stuff doesn't seem to show any...

Ah, just put some oil of some type in her. She will be just fine. Boxers are tough and seem to like Dino oil OK.
(Explanation . . . I'm a little bored and toasted and reading old threads! Great Fun in the wee hours of the morning!)
Good info though, Boxermania.
