No More, part 2

Well, the R sold today on E-bay. Really liked the bike but the situation at work along with some other stuff convinced me to sell it. If we get a new contract at work and dont strike, I may look for another bike next summer after things cool down. An R or maybe an RT will be at the top of the list. ...

Funny, I just noticed this today. I touch down with my right. I was also taught to put your left down first. Somewhere along the line, I forgot. I slow with my rear brake but do the final bit of stopping with my front I guess. Anyway, Right for me. :)

Love my boxer but as for best design of an engine, I'd have to say Moto Guzzi. The engine is sideways so you get the increased cooling but it's still a "V" so you get the personality of a "V". Guys over on the Guzzi board say the boxer engine is just an old Guzzi whos jugs are sa...

Heres what I came up with on the parts fiche.... http://home.comcast.net/~paroyboy/bulb.jpg The bulbs dont look too expensive but there are three different bulbs with three different wattages. 62 14 2 306 127 is the 7W bulb. My guess would be thats the ones for the main illumination and the smaller ...

I can top that one.... I went into the local HD shop to buy a t-shirt (yeah, yeah, I know!) and walked out $6800 later with my 04 R. It was one my bigger impulse buys!

there is a placard on the frame in front of the tank on the riders right hand side. will tell month/year of manufacture. If BMW is anything like Harley is....we start building the new model year in June/July so a build date of August 2006 is actually a 2007 model. I dont know why, I just cash the p...

Few more details I found: 1st character -- Identifies the country in which the vehicle was manufactured. For example: U.S.A.(1 or 4), Canada(2), Mexico(3), Japan(J), Korea(K), England(S), Germany(W), Italy(Z) 2nd character -- Identifies the manufacturer. For example; Audi(A), BMW(B), Buick(4), Cadil...

This will give you the build date:

http://www.bmw-z1.com/VIN/VINdecode-e.cgi

To tell the actual model year, look at the tenth digit of the VIN. That will be the model year

I'll be the odd man out and say stick with BMW 20-50. The service guy tried to explain the whole weight and API ratings to me. Almost immediately, I developed a blank stare and my eyes rolled up in my head! I dont care HOW it works as long as it DOES work. 5 quarts was less than $24. Whats an extra ...

I thought I saw a BMW adapter at the dealer that lets you connect leads to it, then plug it in. Might be wrong, didnt pay that close attention to it but you might want to check it out.

Re: If I wasn't riding a Roadster . . .

Still, the marque is notoriously reliable (and the valves are self-adjusting!). Nope, most of Guzzis bike dont have self adjusting valves. Only a couple of years of the EV model had hydraulic valves and there were huge problems/recalls with them. But, with the jugs hanging out in the open, they're ...

I go by the book on oil. I considered using GTX 20-50 until I read up on the API letters. BMW reccommended oil is SG rated. Automotive oil sold now is SM. I figured they just keep improving the standard but thats not the case. Some stuff that is in SG might not be in the newer SM. Service guy agreed...

Re: Yikes!!!! Rear wheel almost falls off after dealer servi

Well, thats about it. Not sure if I will ever trust this bike again. Trust the bike, just not the dealer. Glad you made it to the side of the road safely. You made me think though. I too had tires put on this morning. After the new shoes, I put about 200 miles on the bike today. I get work done at ...
