Re: Is anyone ever here?

FWIW, I came back after a LONG period away from owning a Roadster. I finally found an affordable 2007 R1200R and realized that I absolutely missed the daylights out of the BMW Telelever/Paralever suspension. Still putting the last few farkles on the bike to get it how I like it, but it's pretty clos...

Re: Broken saddlebag cleat

Single system case replacement is usually expensive ($200-$500, used). Used sets come up on CL and on the IBMWR.org site at reasonable prices, but not as often as one hopes. =D> The good news is: system cases are surprisingly modular, and can be taken apart easily! =D> If you are even "moderate...

Re: Newbie

That's a great looking Roadster RSMike! A fine specimen, for its age. :) I traded "down" from an R1150R to a 2000 R1100RL (non-abs) a couple years back, and am appreciating this roadster more and more every day. Easier to work on, and much more comfy on all-day rides. I do miss the 6-speed...

Re: My first Beemer, 1996 R1100R, rode Jap only!

Nice choice! I had to sell my R1150R a few years back, then bought a 2001 R1100RL. I've NEVER been happier in my replacement choice. And don't worry about the blinker buttons...you'll get used to them, soon. Keep your eyes open on the iBMWR.org marketplace for a replacement to your bent wheel, or ch...

Re: Windshield question

Phil, I don't think you'd need to sell your R1100R just because there aren't a lot of aftermarket choices for shield available. You can experiment cheaply with different methods, but the key is getting the air that flows over whatever shield you buy - past your head. Some folks buy or fabricate a &q...

Re: 94 R1100R Rear Swingarm Stand

http://stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/images/InitialSet/pitbull_rearstand_bmw_k1200_600.jpg Except for the hexhead and newer K model Pitbull stands (with the big hole in their rear hubs) there isn't a rear stand designed for the R1100R (AFAIK). Nearly all boxer twin BMWs are designed with a tremendo...

Re: Deisel Motor oil?

I used to use the 20w-50 Rotella in my (former) '03 R1150R, and it ran fine during high-temperature days. My current '01 R1100R is going to get some fresh 15w-40 Rotella when it needs an oil change. Good oil, IMO...

Re: Topcase R1100R

This is for sale at A&S cycles: http://www.ascycles.com/detail.aspx?ID=1687 I'm not sure if it would support a Givi/Kappa universal monokey/monolock plate, or not. However, I'd suggest you keep an eye on eBay. There are a couple of eBay power sellers who occasionally offer the Givi F635 & M3...

Welcome back, Garyspolar! I've been through 3 "secondary" bikes since I bought my beloved Frau Blucher ('02 Red single-spark) two years ago. I cannot bring myself to consider selling her. I thought about an R1200GS or an Adventure 950, until I sat on them. This R beemer is just the best ha...

Another girthmeister posting...I love the BMW's for the complete LACK of front-end dive. With the stock shocks though, I found that the rear of the bike squats quite a bit under hard acceleration in tight corners. The stockers completely wore out near the 15k mileage mark, and I didn't have enough $...

The BMW R1150R on the silver screen again

I checked out the trailer for the latest Milla Jovovich film "UltraViolet" today. What did I see? (besides Milla's bare belly in every action scene) A BMW R1150R! She was doing stunts on it that may remind you of that other special motorcycle movie, "Torque". the trailer: http://...

As an ELF peg owner, I'll say I'm VERY pleased with their position, fit n' finish, and durability. They've survived a tipover directly onto the cylinder head, and did not bend or break. You can pull them back in by pushing them in with your boot heels, so lane splitting won't be a problem. I have a ...

My guess is that it is either an MZ 250 or a CZ250 Jawa/MX variant. This looks like the Eastern Bloc motocross bikes of the early 1970s, but I think the cylinder heads on the CZ were a bit thicker. Both the German (MZ) and the Czech used those diagonal cooling fins on the top of the cylinder, at one...

Michelin Anakees are a reasonably popular adventure touring tire for the GS crowd. Good traction on wet pavement, and they can handle their own in some moderately wet clay/muddy surfaces. http://two-wheels.michelin.com/2w/front/affich.jsp?codeRubrique=2092004104045&codePage=2092004104045_1009200...

I've got a 2001 Honda Accord LX with only 50k on it. I only use the cage for long-distance trips that require carrying people or more stuff than I can strap to the Roadster or the Weestrom. Still have lotsa tread on the summer tires, so the cage gets nearly ALL of its use in the winter, when the roa...

Ride your roadster in a rain storm - no kidding. I had the same thing happen last summer on a road trip. The plastic looked like it would never come off. I tried using a plastic edge to remove it, but no dice. The next week, the streets filled with rain after a bit of a ride. When the cold water off...
