Re: Successful Long Ride and Sports Screen
Wet and windy is something not seen in So Cal much! Are you trying to p**s us off over here in the North of England (North Yorkshire) :) Contrary to the popular opinion in other parts of the globe, it is not always wet and windy here; sometimes it is foggy! ........ but, to me it is beautiful and ....

Re: "$20 Stupid Tax for all tires showing cords"
I'm still in 'Devil's Advocate' mode (purely for discussion's sake!) in wet weather conditions the front tyre clears the water away before the rear to run through the same track. Good point. Front tyres need significant tread. If the front tyre clears the water, why can't we run a bald tyre on the r...

Re: "$20 Stupid Tax for all tires showing cords"
I'm going to play 'Devil's Advocate ' on this subject. I think I am correct in saying that a bald tyre (which still has rubber in the central portion) has more grip in the dry that a tyre which has tread, but when the road is even slightly damp, very much the opposite is the case The Metzler Z6 does...

Re: It's getting to be Antifreeze time again!!
I'm a little confused because after Wayne had posted a reminder about anti-freeze I went across to the local BMW dealer and asked for a couple of litres of anti-freeze for the Rockster. Just to show them that they weren't dealing with an idiot, I also asked for a new thermostat (one can't be too car...

Re: Random Thoughts on My R1150R
I think that the Rockster indicators self-cancel on distance; not time. At a standstill they will go on forever. Frustratingly however, if you indicate at the 300x marker at a motorway exit, they will self cancel before the exit.

Re: EBC Double H sintered brake pads, are they for Rockster?
I don't know about the suitability of those pads with your discs, BUT I can say that you shouldn't assume that the discs are not stainless because they are magnetic. It's over 40 years since I studied mechanical engineering, but I think the magnetic qualities are dependent on the quantity of Martens...

Re: TO Retorque or NOT to retorque
When you loosen each nut (and the 10mm hexhead) individually, oil the threads I'm not sure about that, Rob. Shouldn't they be torqued DRY (but obviously free to rotate easily). On the subject of torquing the head bolts, I would simply back-off each one in turn; make sure it is free to turn easily, ...

Re: Odyssey PC680 vs PC680-P
I've a feeling that there must be an undiscovered force carrying particle which covers the US and which trashes batteries at an average of 4 years BUT makes your tyres last 10000+ miles because over here in the UK we have the supersymmetric particle! The best I have had out of any of my tyres was 70...

Re: Batteries and cold weather
Does your bike not have the posts on the left hand side of the machine (near the cylinder) onto which you can attach the crocodile clips of a battery charger?

Re: Blip throttle when downshifting?
Yes; I think I got it slightly wrong. Blipping the throttle with the clutch pulled in would only speed up the engine, not the layshaft. My take on double declutching is:- 1. clutch lever in and shift into neutral; 2. clutch lever out and rev engine (which this time WOULD speed up th layshaft); 3. cl...

Re: Blip throttle when downshifting?
Yes, I totally agree that one should blip the throttle when downshifting, in order to match the speed of the layshaft gear with that on the mainshaft. Be happy that all motorbikes (apart from my Guzzi Convert, which has a torque converter) have a sequential gearbox with straight-cut gears, which in ...

Oliver; I just had a quick look on ebay (searching "bike lift") and came across quite a few lifts. The following link is to just one of them http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Liftmaster-680Kg-Motorcycle-Bike-Lift-ATV-Jack-1500LB-/250818224635?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item3a65ee61fb Best reg...

Re: R1150R seat heights
Perhaps in the UK we have three seat height options, becuase my bike came with the low seat and I found it escruciatingly painful. The angle was such that I was always sliding down into the tank and the 'lads' started complaining after only a couple of hours riding. I managed to find a higher BMW se...

Re: Fogging face shield
Similar to Jas, but when I clean the visor, I add a few drops of washing-up liquid to the final clean rinse and just let it drain (after giving it a good shake). Again, it doesn't last long but I tend top clean the visor regularly by soaking it. I'm sure everyboday already knows this but you shouldn...

Boy, now I really do feel really thick Welcome to the club! In a similar vein, I remember someone on the Australian Moto Guzzi forum saying that ...
