Re: Seem to have lost my TB mojo....

Couple of thoughts based on your post Set left TB BBS at 1.5 turns from close, do same for the right BBS. Set tickover (idle) speed at 1100 to 1200 rpm. If idle varies, look for an air leak, either at the gasket between the TB adaptor to the head or the hose that connects to the bottom of the TB and...

Re: Anybody ever try the RT headers on an R?

I don't like dull chrome, so I have used Jet-Hot for many year sin both bikes and car applications with good sucess. Ceramic coatings protect the exhaust pipe, acts as a heat barrier (keeping more of the exhaust heat inside, improving the cylinder scavenging) and cool down to the touch within 5 minu...

Re: R1150R 2004 spark plugs need frequent change.

djskriff It has been well documented that stick coils (on 4 plug apps) tend to deteriorate as a result of long term exposure to engine heat. In most cases the deterioration is slow and hardly noticeable by the rider, that is, until it gets progressibly worse and manifests itself as you so describe. ...

Re: Won t Start

As AndyRR suggested

1) Was kill switch on right handle in the off position?
2) Where the fuel line quick disconects driven all the way home until the tab clicked....otherwise the fuel will not flow.

Good luck

Re: Diagnosing ABS Fault

Nice work...once again, the question is what happened during the design stage....the solution was maybe too expensive if they had an existing sensor available that can be made to fit, need I say more.

Re: Anybody ever try the RT headers on an R?

macx The RT had to use that type exhaust header because the proximity of the plastic, actually that type is very similar to the one used on the RS. Also note that the RS didn't have as much torque down low as the R of the period. That being said the exhaust on the R1150R and Rockster, receives it's ...

Re: Diagnosing ABS Fault

gaijin Let us say that if you pull on the lever you will be surprised by the loss in braking....it's akin to a car when the engine shuts off and there is no power brake assist. I suggest removing the fuse to the ABS and become familiar, under controlled conditions, with the loss in braking in the ev...

Re: Diagnosing ABS Fault

ABS diagnosis has to be planned and deliberate, so if you aren't in the know, it is best to leave troubleshooting to someone in the now or someone in this forum that has been there before. That being said and based on your post, there is one simple thing that you can do....check all ABS electrical c...

Re: LED lights install?'s

IMO, there is one serious issue with LED's as road lghts, LED's are very bright but don't have anywhere the reach of a good Halogen or an HID.

In short you will be seen, before you see them.....

Re: R50 with a roadster engine.

I like the R50, with the individual filters and did you notice where the computer resides? vertically just behind the engine. The exhaust pipes had to be cut and re-welded, nevertheless a very clean and interesting approach.

Re: Is there any advantage to clutchless upshifting?

The point has been made, clutchless shifting is a precise operation and reserved for very specific conditions, the downside is that the components are exposed to undue stress, at best and serious damage at worst. Shifting forks, synchro dogs all suffer....stick to what has been provided and extend t...

Re: RSR BMW clutch ??

TicTac50 The R1150R clutch disc design changed much during several of the R iterations, primarily due to space limitations, at the same time the bikes have grown heavier and more powerfull reflecting on the disc's durability. That being said and based on your post, there is already some slippage tak...

Re: Will we be able to maintain our bikes indefinitely?

The answer is yes, assuming timely maintenance. Instead of listing all the merits, I'll focus on the weaknesses, take into consideration that some of these issues are more of a crap shoot as they are related, IMO, to design, assembly and suppliers. Nylon ties on wire bundles - easy repair Fuel quick...

Kartoo The spring loaded center hub could have been the best improvement to our bikes, unfortunately, packaging and lack of forethought (IMO) prevented the addition of such. RB has been touting their spring clutch for awhile, I have yet to hear of someone that has been able to source one or for that...

Re: Bad Cylinder Head? Bad Casting?

None of the engine parts are powder coated at the factory, they are painted. The problems associated with the bubbles and peeling are bad prep (dirty/contaminated surface) prior to the paint spray process. Careful touch up and or powder coating, specially on the valve covers (prone to sustain scratc...

If the proposed tranny input shaft is worn, replace with a new...
