Re: Hungry Mother 2014 is August 15-17
It's been a while since I posted on this forum and even longer since I've been to HM. I can't fully commit because my work schedule is so screwy, but I truly hope to come this year. I've been in touch with SJBMW (Herb), and he's also trying to come. I may also have a buddy from work along but his sc...

Thanks Sweatmark - the bike is garaged about 15 miles away and I'll check when I get over there later this weekend.

Re: Bee stings & Benadryl
As others have pointed out, for those who have had allergic reactions in the past, what started as a modest reaction will invariably be worse the next time and much worse, maybe even lethal, the time after that. An epi-pen really should a standard part of your outdoor kit, though it does require a p...

Wow - Wayne's gonna make this! Now I really need to try and get the Roadster running and down there.
Still not running (just posted for some help with an errant connector) but there's at least a 50/50 shot. And if all else fails, I could ride the Wee Strom down again.

Help needed: Wiring
Hi all -- It's been ages since I posted on this board and even longer since I've been able to ride my '03 Roadster (as some here may remember, this was due to a bizarre wiring harness meltdown). In any event, I recently have been able to devote some time to getting the bike back on the road and I'm ...

Brian, Vann, Phil et al --
Would love to make this and hope to have the Roadster running to do so. Can't commit just yet - fingers crossed on getting the R bike running by the end of the week. Will try to get SJBMW (Herb) on board as well.
Hopefully see you guys this summer.

Re: Consumer Reports tests Motorcycles
From the May magazine Yes, the artfully sculpted lines of a BMW motorcycle and the throaty rumble of a Harley-Davidson V-twin motor can stir your senses. But they’re often accompanied by more problems than Japanese motorcycles from Honda, Kawasaki, and Yamaha. Those are the findings from our first m...

Re: Returning member - with questions
Thanks Rick - I should have mentioned that I replaced the fuel filter just before the bike died. It has less than a couple of hundred miles on it. Even so, while the tank's been off, I took the whole assembly out again and checked the hoses, clamps, etc (an aside: I toyed with the idea of the extern...

Guys --
Would love to make this but not sure if my ride will be up and running. If I get the R back on the road soon - as I hope to do - I'll see if I can book a room. Otherwise, y'all ride safe.

Returning member - with questions
Hi all -- I have not been active on this site for a couple of years, primarily because I have not ridden my R since it burned out its wire harness. During the interim, I have been having a lot of fun with my Wee Strom, a very capable smaller displacement machine that is reliable and durable to boot ...

Re: Jacket advice
Thanks all. I actually have an Olympia Phantom (and a set of their snowboard gloves that I use for cold weather riding) and am very impressed with their stuff. The suit is an excellent value for the money and I'm sure the AST is as well. Unfortunately, it's really out of my price range at the moment...

Jacket advice
Hi all - it's been a very long while since I've posted here but I now need to tap into the combined wisdom of this august group. The time has come for me to finally scrap my 10 year old Joe Rocket 3/4 length jacket. It was a decent piece of equipment and I'm considering replacing it with the JR Ball...

The Beakster is still not back on the road but the WeeStrom is running strong.
I'm a definite "maybe" and really hope to see you all next month. As they say, "more on this story as it develops".

Re: Do These Bikes Like Cooler Weather...?
Not sure why, but my R1150R always ran really sweetly on cool mornings (<55F or so) with moderate humidity, like you'd find in the spring or fall in SE PA. Conversely, she ran really poorly in hot, humid mid-Atlantic summer weather. The bike ran OK in sub-freezing temps, noticably better than in the...

Re: Cool Weather Riding Mods
Short of adding a full fairing - essentially making the R into an RT - there is not much you can can put on the Roadster to keep the cold at bay. The means you need to work on rider accessories with heated clothing among the best - but not the sole - option(s). Though I have a Gerbings vest, I find ...

Re: What will fit me best?
OK, I know this is the Roadster forum but given that the non-R bike suggestion taboo has already been broken, I'm going to take that as a license to expand things further. In my opinion, the Suzuki DL or SV650 are worth looking into. They share the same V-twin engine but have different frames. The D...

Re: Do throttles stick open?
While I haven't heard of this happening to the R bikes, it certainly is possible for the throttle to be held open due to mechanical problems (the TBs or the throttle cables sticking). It may also be possible for an electronic issue to be the cause (the ECU or TPS) - hopefully someone else with more ...

Re: Do Wind Deflectors Work?
The Aeroflow Sport Half-Fairing was the ideal screen for me at 5' 7" but with a longer than average torso (offset by short legs). YMMV. Not sure if they're still made for the R1150R but you may be able to find one used. The BMW Sport Screen I had worked reasonably well but the Aeroflow was near...

Re: Chassis wiring harness
A new harness for a non-ABS bike is in the $1,400 range and would likely have to be ordered from the Fatherland (not usually in the parts pipeline here in the states). That was too big a nut for me, so I had to find a used one. As suggested by zeke , try Beemer Boneyard. I didn't have any luck with ...
